If you're a middle-tier person with responsibility for cyber-security in your $30-$300-million annual revenue-class company, it's sometimes refreshing to note that the private sector isn't the only place where breach problems arise.

One of the miracles of the American Economic System is its ability to monetize everything. In the insurance industry, monetization of risk across many participants led to global trade in the 1600's. A wonderfully on-point short history of risk may be found online here. At some level, risk management has co-evolved as new technologies unfolded. Since networked computers are now ubiquitous, so is the ever-changing risk profile.

Normally, C-level people don't scan Billboard magazine looking for information about data security. Let alone searching for useful data to support potential breach costs for their firms. (Unless they are "in the business" of course. But, do yourun a record label?)
